On November 13th, CropLife Japan (Chairman Ozawa Satoshi) held an insect memorial service, an annual late autumn event, at the main hall of Kinryuzan Sensoji Temple in Taito Ward, Tokyo.
The insect memorial service is held to pray for the repose of the souls of insects (religious name: Mushi no Reii) that have been killed through pest control measures, and also to pray for the development of the industry. It began in 1955, just after the Crop Protection Association was founded in 1953, and has been held every year except for 1956, making this year the 69th time it has been held. This year, about 80 people attended, including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other government agencies, industry officials from plant protection organizations, and association member executives.
